Have you ever found a great article in a blog on the internet and thought to yourself, wow I’ll have to remember this site and come back to learn more?
Well, you could bookmark the site, or you could save it to your favorites. But there is a more organized way to save sites that you like and want to return to.
You can create an account with GOOGLE READER at (www.google.com/reader), It’s FREE , and it’s very simple to set up! GOOGLE READER helps you find and keep track of stuff on the web through their RSS FEEDS. RSS stands for (Real Simple Syndication). You can subscribe to your favorite websites, see what your friends are sharing, and keep up with what’s popular. New content comes to your GOOGLE READER when it’s posted, so you don’t need to visit individual sites. Plus GOOGLE READER keeps track of items you’ve read, so you only see unread items when you come back. If there’s a dark blue border around an item, GOOGLE READER is marking that item as read.
I am going to show you via a screencapture video just how easy it is to set up your own GOOGLE READER account. And once you set up your account go ahead and test it by subscribing to my website josephmcdevitt.com

Hello Joseph
I love Google Reader. I use it to not only follow blogs but also keep track of blogs I comment on.
Every blog I comment on I add a star to.
I also use the Folder feature, for example I have a folder for TSA members.
Helps me stay organized.

Hi Joseph,
You’ve just gotta love Google Reader. I’ve used it for some time now and really love having the ability to keep up on so many different feeds. I find that I do have to be somewhat careful not to overdo however. It’s very easy to load up anything and everything and get far too much to ever actually get read.

Interesting post. I was aware of the reader, but never took advantage of it.
Actually right now we are looking for a speaker to talk just about Google and all of its different functions. If you know anyone in the Tampa, FL area let me know.
Thanks for the valuable info. Have a great day!

I love RSS readers, I discovered them several years ago, and it’s the way I visit the majority of the blogs that interest myself. It cuts down on my blog visits considerably since I can read, comment, and view the entire blog from my RSS feed aggregator.
I don’t use Google reader, but I do use NetNewsWire for Mac. They have a free and a paid version, both versions are great and do exactly what I want.

Hi Joe, I love Google Reader. Ever since I started using the Reader, I started saving myself a lot of time. Everything is in one place.
Furthermore, if I don’t know what to write about I use the blogs that I have collected in Google Reader to come up with a new topic.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Joseph,
Google certainly has made it easy for all of us to connect. Thank you for such a clear and simple to follow how-to. I have been using Google Reader for awhile now but I remember when it was a mystery. Your video would have really helped me to see its value sooner. I know I have some great material there for me on my Google Reader page when I look in on it. I always use it to keep track of all the cool stuff I find. Thanks,

Great little training video. Now with google’s personalized search it also lets us search our favorite blogs when we’re looking for info on a topic. (Blog results are usually at the bottom of page one). This lets me for example, subscribe to your blog today but forget this post is here – then next week logged into google, do a search for Google reader and find you at the bottom of page one in my blogs box! Hot stuff to learn from people we trust!

Hey Joseph, great work on the post and video however I don’t see the point with google reader if I can just subscribe via live bookmarks in firefox. Can you set g reader up with g alerts or something where it alerts you when a new post has been added? Otherwise, I don’t see the benefit.

I love google reader. I like the ability to rename the blog (you’d be amazed the number of good blogs that don’t have any description). And then to group the blogs into folders and share.
The ability to share right within Reader is great as well.
