Many marketers these days have moved away from marketing offline and are focusing their attention to online marketing, which is becoming totally over-saturated.

When I start to see everyone flocking to one form of marketing, namely online marketing, I will shift gears and put more emphasis on another form to avoid becoming a statistic of over-saturation.

What’s nice too, Business Card marketing is very inexpensive.

Now, business cards really do work!

I want to tell you a quick story,  A couple of years ago I had someone call me from one of the business cards I left out there, well she decided to join me in business and since then she has gone on to become one of the top leaders in my organization, and she has grown quite a sizable group of her own. So if anyone ever tries to yell you that business cards don’t work, there wrong.

In this post I want to talk about a marketing strategy called “Drop-Card Marketing”, which is a form of offline marketing that has proven to be very effective for me and many others. In fact just about everyone in my organization is using this form of marketing to acquire leads and grow their own group.

It seems as though many marketers these days have moved away from marketing offline and are focusing their attention to online marketing, which in my opinion is becoming totally over-saturated these days.

Now, in my many years of marketing I have learned that you simply can’t have too many marketing strategies. What I try to do is layer on many different marketing techniques, online and offline, because what might be working well with one strategy right now might not be working so well in the future. Therefore by using as many marketing techniques as possible you will always have something that is working for you.

Using this mindset has allowed me to grow my business into a 5 figure per month entity that just keeps growing every month.

Now, I am not trying to brag, I am simply trying to convey that what I am doing and teaching really works!

I encourage you to learn and implement as many marketing strategies as possible, because if your not, you are leaving money on the table.

By getting involved in Postcard Marketing you are entering a multi-billion dollar direct mail and direct marketing industry.

The benchmark for success in direct mail and Postcards in particular is the percentage of responses that turn into income as a result of a given direct mail Postcard campaign!

The key to understanding the psychology of Postcard success is this… You have a 10 second window of opportunity to get someone to respond. Postcards are a “direct response” marketing venue. The goal is to generate direct, immediate response. The person looking at your Postcard will give you 10 seconds. Your goal is to give them all they need in that 10 second window to cause them to either go to your website or call you on the phone.

If your marketing a home business type program, just give them your 800 sizzle line message or a website. Personally I prefer to use the 800 sizzle message to pre-sell or get them excited to take the next step, such as visit my website or attend a webinar.

The national response rate for direct mail Postcard marketing is 1% to 2% of buyers. Now that might not sound like much but, at 1% your making great money… at 2% your going to create some serious cash flow!

One question I am asked quite often is “How can I approach again all those people in my warm market who said “no” to me in the past?  How and what do you think is the best way to approach them knowing that they already know I’m in network marketing?”

On a case by case basis, there may be specific reasons why a family member or friend has said no to you and, over time, it will be important to understand exactly what those reasons were and why that caused them to say no to your opportunity.  However, if due to poor or less than effective network marketing training, you have missed the opportunity to work with some great people, it may be because:

• you invited them to look at your business without understanding their needs and wants
• they gave you objections you couldn’t handle
• you couldn’t make your presentation relevant to them and to their needs and wants
• they asked you questions you could not answer
• some looked at your MLM business but didn’t take it any further
• your follow up wasn’t effective enough

Whether I am working with warm market or cold market, I always follow the MLM Inviting Formula and I highly recommend you do the same by:

• Greeting your prospect
• Qualifying your prospect
• Inviting your prospect
• Handling questions and objections
• Close

So, in the context of dealing with this difficult situation, I would go right back to the first step.

The way that you do this is that you go back and you be a friend. You just talk to them.  You don’t talk to them about business, about MLM, about network marketing.  You don’t even bring it up.  You just make sure you stay in communication with them.  “Hey, how are you?  How’s it going?”  Things like that.

Do that a couple of times.  Remember you’re trying to repair those important relationships which you may have damaged.  That’s what you’re trying to do here.  This is not wasting time.  This is probably some of the most important time you will ever spend is getting back into good communication with these people who are your friends.

Very, very important that you do this, and let’s say that you go and you spend time together and you meet some other people. You may be thinking that these new people are prospects. Remembering what your goal is here there is no reason for you to prospect. Just be friendly with everyone you are around.

You may exchange business cards or ‘phone numbers and that’s great. It’s just all about communicating and being friends with people.  At some point in time, the time will be right. They may be open to your hearing about your network marketing business again, and if not that’s okay because you’re going to continue to work with other people.

If you do not use the correct amount of assertiveness you will waste prospects and destroy relationships.

Have you ever wondered what causes family, friends and other prospects to dodge your calls, not show up at an appointment or completely avoid any contact with you? This common scenario could easily be avoided if professionals would learn this one very important prospecting skill…

Assert means: the amount of force or effort used to make an opinion known. I’m not simply talking about volume (loudness of speech).

You can assert your opinion about your MLM business or product too much with a loud voice or a soft voice and it will cause the prospect to back away from your ideas.

You can assert questions too repetitively and cause your prospect to feel interrogated. You can assert not enough and cause the prospect to feel your business or product is not important.

With the volume of your voice, if your prospect can’t hear you, then your communication is worthless. If you talk too loudly so that everyone in the restaurant can also hear you, it’s too much assertiveness.

I recall a movie called Bowfinger, where Steve Martin plays a movie director trying to find a person to play a particular part in a movie. The quality he was looking for in the actor was that he or she had to posses “it.”

Throughout the entire movie he would interview potential actors for the role and within a few seconds he would yell, No, no, no! You don’t have “it”! The actor would exclaim, “Tell me what “it” is and I’ll get it!”

Yet Steve Martin couldn’t actually describe what “it” was. So he would search for another actor. Finally he interviews a girl and as soon as she begins to talk he exclaims, “THAT’S IT! SHE HAS “‘IT!’” He then could see what “it” was.

“It” is, (drum roll please) when the individual talks, people want to listen to him or her. When you have “it,” prospects want to learn more about your MLM business. When you have “it,” people will want to learn more about your great products. When you have “it”, your downline will want to follow you and duplicate what you’re doing.

Conversely, network marketing professionals who don’t have “it” drive prospects away. People back away and won’t buy your product or service, and your network marketing organization won’t follow your suggestions.

Perhaps the word that best describes “it” is “charisma.” The definition of charisma is: a personal quality attributed to people who arouse devotion and enthusiasm.

Of the Ten Communication Qualities I train you on in Professional Inviter, “Use the Correct Amount of Assertiveness” is the one that really gives you the “It.”

My point in this article is: When you have “it,” your prospects want what you’re offering. People want to be around you. People listen to what you say. If you don’t have “it,” you can use the exact same prospecting scripts as someone who has “it,” but not have the same success. So this is a very important quality to have!

A problem I face is: A feeling that prospects do not perceive me as credible or believable. Perhaps it’s only my “reading” of their thoughts, but it’s the feeling I get from their reaction or response.

Thank you for sending this question to me. I’m going to answer this in two parts.

1. Doubting yourself
2. How to increase your credibility

Doubting yourself

Throughout my life I have had many feelings similar to this one. Looking back I’m not sure if the person I was talking with really gave that “feeling” to me or if I was the one who gave it to myself because I didn’t feel like I had enough credibility to be talking to this person. Think about that for a few seconds…or a few minutes!

How can someone reach inside your head and make you feel [anything]?

I don’t think there’s a “no credibility” switch inside your head or mine that a person can reach in and flip.

What I’m trying to do is help you to see that this question mostly has to do with how you view yourself. Or how you allow others to influence the way you view yourself.

If you think about it, no one can MAKE you feel mad or angry or guilty or not credible – YOU are the only one who can accomplish that; even if someone says it to you.

Let’s suppose you’re a female and someone says to you, “You are a guy.” You would just look at them strangely and continue what you’re doing. You KNOW you’re not a guy. But if someone says something to you that you have already thought of – then you’re more likely to “allow” them to influence the way you see yourself. Like, “You’ve put on some weight.” But in reality, the two comments don’t have to affect you differently.

Here’s the way it worked for me and how I solved it. I used to have this thought that because I didn’t get a college degree, I wasn’t credible and that no one would listen to me. This wasn’t true – it was just in my thoughts. At a social gathering I would meet someone and they would ask, “Where did you go to school?” I would reply, “Hixson High School.” They would then say, “No, what college?” I would reply, “I didn’t go to college.” To that they would say, “Oh.”

I would walk away feeling like I had no credibility with them. And, perhaps I didn’t. But the real damage was when I didn’t talk to people simply because I thought I didn’t have the right to talk to someone because I didn’t go to college! That’s enormous damage.

Here’s how I worked it out in my head – Now, what’s the “truth?” Is there anyone who has ever been successful in life that didn’t go to college? YES!

People go to college so they can be more knowledgeable on a subject so they can get better results. So it’s results that matter. But I used to think [incorrectly] that college equaled better results. Perhaps if I was trying to be successful as a doctor it would matter – but in network marketing it did not.

So, I just dumped the idea that I needed a college degree to be successful because just having that thought would actually STOP ME FROM BEING SUCCESSFUL!

Talk about irony!

How to increase your credibility

I knew the ONLY way I was going to gain the respect of others (college graduates or not) was to get results. So number one I had to not stop myself no matter what anyone said to me or what I said to myself. I had to just keep on until I got results. Here’s what I did and what you should do if you want to increase your credibility:

1. Talk with people – no one can be successful without this step.  Use the 10 Communication Qualities & Inviting Formula – you will immediately increase your credibility ENORMOUSLY by increasing your communication skills.

2. Help people and allow others to help you.  When someone helps you, give back something of equal or greater value.  When you help someone, allow them to help you back.

3. Be trustworthy.  Do what you say you will do.

4. Increase your knowledge.  The more knowledge you have in the area you are advising or suggesting about, the more influence you will have. So know network marketing. Know your product/service. Know your company.

5. Increase your results (doing the above will accomplish this).  The more results you’ve gotten in the area you are discussing or attempting to attract another into, the more influence you will have.

Bottom line: If you sense someone isn’t giving you any credibility – move on and do not allow them to weaken your view of yourself. If your prospect needs credibility in order to listen to you then you can contact them after you’ve gotten results.

A person who is unable to evaluate a business has to judge the business based on their perception of the credibility of the person presenting it. Those who can not evaluate a business based on its merits will work for those who can, or miss out on a lot of money.
